Rocky Trail’s Fox Superflow® and Academy Schools Comp Smash Records at Narooma!

Narooma, NSW – The second Narooma Fox Superflow® weekend marked another milestone in Rocky Trail’s commitment to fostering mountain biking excellence and community engagement on the NSW South Coast. Supported by Eurobodalla Shire Council, this year’s event showcased the incredible potential of the Narooma MTB Trails and solidified its vision of making mountain biking accessible to all. For the first time, the Rocky Trail Academy schools competition was introduced on the Friday, a groundbreaking initiative that saw 80 enthusiastic high school students from 11 local and out-of-region schools, stretching from Canberra to the Sydney region, take to the trails.

The energy on the Friday ahead of the Superflow® racing weekeend was palpable at Narooma. The competition was friendly but fierce, with Batemans Bay High ultimately claiming the Schools Championship Title, awarded by points, a testament to their students’ dedication and skill. Bega’s Sapphire Coast Anglican College and Jerrabomberra High School followed closely, demonstrating the rising talent within the region.

Rocky Trail’s Juliane Wisata said that the unwavering support of the local Narooma MTB Club was instrumental in the event’s success. “Their tireless efforts, including a fundraising BBQ at the event hub and a refreshing cold drinks station at the Gravity Zone, created a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for all participants”, she reported.

This year, she explained further, Rocky Trail had innovated by establishing two event hubs, which was a huge logistics challenge. The company had invested in additional mobile communications equipment to facilitate critical emergency procedures and that race times were available to participants via a live portal.

“We wanted to showcase of more of Narooma’s exceptional trails. The popular “I love Steve” and “Thomas the Jank Engine” tracks challenged the gravity weekend racers, while the return to the main hub via “Thunderbirds a Go” tested their endurance.” – Juliane Wisata

Jarrad Davis wins Narooma Fox Superflow®

The weekend saw a record 40% of riders under 17 years old, a clear indication of the growing youth movement in mountain biking. This surge in young talent was reflected in the Elite podium, where Jarrad Davis, currently one of Australia’s fastest gravity enduro racers, and a Batemans Bay native now based in Wollongong, secured the outright win with a blistering time of 7:28.8. Batemans Bay’s own Morgan Fitzgerald, who has been nurturing junior skills through local programs since the opening of the Narooma and Mogo Trails, took a close second in 7:34.9. Nick Kennedy from Port Macquarie claimed third in 7:39.3, followed by Liam Dooley from Huskisson in fourth, and Narooma’s own Andrew Crimmins, a former State DH Champion and nationally acclaimed racer and coach, rounding out the top five.

With nearly 15% of local Eurobodalla competitors and over 85% of attendees from outside the region, the event underscored Narooma’s and the Eurobodalla region’s growing reputation as a premier mountain biking destination. In the women’s category, Lottie Cooper from Moruya burst onto the scene as the Elite Winner with a time of 10:27.0, leading a strong field of 30 female competitors.

Rocky Trail is incredibly pleased with the event’s outcome, said Wisata.

“Being based in Batemans Bay now, one of our major goals is to establish our Rocky Trail Academy schools races on the NSW South Coast. With it, we want to provide an accessible pathway into the sport for high school students.” – Juliane Wisata
