Redlands Rumble Roars to Life Despite Cyclonic Challenges, Showcasing Thriving MTB Community
REDLANDS COAST, QLD – 6 May 2025 – Rocky Trail Entertainment successfully delivered the Redlands Rumble, a multi-day mountain biking spectacular, overcoming significant hurdles posed by the aftermath of Cyclone Alfred. The event, held on the Redlands Coast Eastern Escarpment Trails, featured the popular Rocky Trail Academy schools competition and a Fox Superflow gravity race, drawing hundreds of riders and injecting an estimated $95,000 into the local visitor economy.
The lead-up to the Redlands Rumble was particularly challenging, with ongoing trail maintenance issues following Cyclone Alfred delaying the announcement of the final race tracks, also known as “Mt Cotton Trails”, until shortly before the event. Despite these adversities, the dedication of the Rocky Trail Entertainment team, coupled with the unwavering support of Redlands City Council and local mountain bike groups, ensured the event went ahead.
The Redlands Rumble kicked off on Friday with the Rocky Trail Academy, a youth development series that saw an impressive 278 school students from over 40 schools participate. The energy was palpable as young riders honed their skills and competed on the trails. Ultimately, The Gap High School claimed the coveted schools championship title, beating out a strong contingent from Nerang High School.

The weekend then saw 300 gravity racers descend upon the trails for the Fox Superflow event. Known for its unique format where riders can tackle multiple timed runs on untimed transfers, the Superflow once again delivered a vibrant atmosphere. Beyond the fierce competition, the Superflow series consistently fosters a strong sense of community, bringing together friends and families to share their passion for mountain biking and enjoy the relaxed, social vibe of the event hub.
“The Redlands Rumble was a true testament to the resilience of our mountain biking community and the incredible support we receive from local councils and groups,” said Bob Morris, Race Director at Rocky Trail Entertainment. “Facing the aftermath of Cyclone Alfred was tough, and we truly appreciate the patience and enthusiasm of all our riders. Seeing so many school students participate on Friday and then hundreds of gravity racers on the weekend was incredibly rewarding.”

Rocky Trail’s new eBike 4-cross format was also trialed at the event, designed to add an exciting dimension to the racing. Unfortunately, persistent rain affected this inaugural format, limiting its full potential. However, the concept showed promising signs for future events.
The Redlands Rumble generated an estimated 105 visitor nights in the region. While 13% of participants were local, the majority of riders were day visitors, highlighting the event’s significant contribution to local businesses.
Rocky Trail Entertainment extends its sincere gratitude to Redlands City Council for their invaluable support, as well as the endorsement and assistance from local mountain bike groups, all of whom were instrumental in making the Redlands Rumble a success against a challenging backdrop.
